Okinawa Prefecture's Uruma City is located in the central part of Okinawa Island and is the third-largest city in Okinawa. Due to the renovation of the Henza District Community Disaster Prevention Center, the Suminoe Art Stage Curtain was adopted. The curtain depicts the traditional Okinawan vessel known as the "Mararan" ship, which is also referred to as the "Yanbaru-sen" in various parts of Okinawa. Although it is no longer in active service, it played an important role as a trading ship for maritime transport until modern times. In particular, Uruma City has a deep connection to this vessel, as a large Mararan ship made by Naoki Goeku, a local master shipwright and intangible cultural asset of the city, is exhibited at the Ocean Culture Museum, serving to educate and promote local culture to the general public. We believe that this curtain has become a beloved piece for the citizens of Uruma.
