Kyoto Tokyu Hotel is a prestigious hotel located north of the World Heritage Site, Nishi Honganji. The flowing water that cascades down the center courtyard of the hotel represents the Horikawa River, which once flowed along the street. Emphasizing its connection to the historic area of Horikawa Gojo and the concept of a "multi-purpose banquet hall" that caters to MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and inbound tourism, a custom Axminster carpet has been adopted for the grand banquet hall "Aoi."
The carpet design is inspired by the hotel's thematic expression of "water," featuring a motif of "Kumiko," a traditional Japanese woodworking technique, to depict the flowing patterns of Horikawa's Yuzen (a type of dyeing). The sharp lines of the hemp leaf pattern create a design that is both traditional and modern. Additionally, the use of traditional Japanese colors gives the space a soft and inviting atmosphere.
