The Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property "Houheikan" was constructed in 1880 as a "government-operated Western-style hotel" under the Hokkaido Development Agency. The following year, it served as a lodging for the Meiji Emperor, and it has been utilized as accommodation for the imperial family and government officials. It was designated as a national important cultural property in 1964.
Recently, after four years of extensive renovation, we implemented a restoration of the carpets and curtains with the cooperation of the construction company and interior contractors. The restoration involved considerable time and effort to match the current patterns based only on composition investigations and existing photographs. Thanks to the cooperation of SUMINOE GROUP's Kyoto Fine Arts and Crafts Institute and other related parties, we successfully completed the handover. The Houheikan is available for use as a wedding venue and is also open to the public, so please make sure to visit if you're in the Sapporo area.
