This facility is a building built in 1928 (Showa 3) to commemorate Beppu City's municipal construction. It is the oldest existing reinforced concrete building in Oita Prefecture, and restoration and renovation work began in 2014. Currently, the Beppu City-designated tangible cultural property houses the Beppu Central Community Center and the Beppu Civic Hall.DOCOMOMO JapanIt has been selected as an architectural work of the modern movement in Japan. The stage stage curtain in the main hall of the public hall that was part of this renovation project is finished with Tango (hook) curtains with a design inspired by bamboo crafts. Beppu is said to have been home to many high-quality bamboos since prehistoric times. In addition, many bamboo crafts have been made as souvenirs, as baskets and bamboo baskets are used by visitors to Beppu, Japan's number one hot spring resort, to use during their stay. Beppu bamboo crafts, which have advanced techniques accumulated over many years, have pioneered a higher level of art and crafts, different from popular crafts, and continue to carve out the history of bamboo crafts. At a glance, the overlapping woven bamboo crafts make you feel the history of Beppu. We hope that the curtains, which are designed with a bold arrangement of various beautiful "braided" shapes, will continue to be popular with people and lead to further development of the region.
