Mima City, located in the northwest part of Tokushima Prefecture, underwent a major renovation of a large shopping center facing the Yoshino River, reopening as a regional exchange center in May 2018. The Suminoe Art Stage Curtain was installed in the hall of this facility. The design of the drape features the historic streets of the old town of Udatsu, with the majestic Mt. Tsurugi, the highest peak in Tokushima Prefecture, and the Yoshino River, known as the clearest stream in Japan, in the background. The design incorporates traditional Mima umbrellas and the flowers of the crepe myrtle (sarusuberi), based on the local specialty blue indigo. By interweaving realistic and abstract designs, the drape has become a rich expression of the region. As Mima City continues to develop while preserving its history, culture, and traditions, we hope it will be cherished by the citizens for many years to come.
